Ajax vs FC Utrecht Preview prediction team news line up
Ajax continue their preparation for the new Eredivisie season when they play host to FC Utrecht at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Thursday (17:45 kick-off).
Erik ten Hag’s side got off to the perfect start in pre-season when the Amsterdammers beat fellow Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk 6-1 on Saturday, with exciting prospect Antony, signed from Sao Paulo in Brazil, getting on the scoresheet twice.
FC Utrecht will kick off the new Eredivisie campaign with their curtain-raiser against AZ Alkmaar on September 12, but they will first have to navigate past three more friendlies, starting against the reigning Dutch champions Ajax later this week.
John van den Brom guided Utrecht to a sixth-placed finish last season, but this match against Ajax, although just a friendly, will give the Dutchman a strong indication of just how prepared his side are with exactly one month to go until the 2020/21 campaign gets underway.
Teenage talent Lassina Traore started up top against Waalwijk in the previous friendly and is expected to lead the line once more, as Ten Hag drops Dusan Tadic further back to find answers for the gaping void left by former creative talisman Hakim Ziyech, who has joined Chelsea.
Ryan Gravenberch, the 18-year-old academy wonderkid, started in midfield and caught the eye. He could retain his place, while recent signings Antony and Maarten Stekelenburg are expected to get more minutes under their belts ahead of the new season.
